CPH:LAB film, "I'm Not From Here" streaming from the New York Times' Op-Doc Section.
After the presentation of the documentary film, I’m Not From Here at the Los Angeles-based International Documentary Awards earlier this month by The New York Times, the film has now been made available online through that newspaper’s premier online platform, Op-Docs, marking the latest achievement for the film’s’ co-directors, the Lithuanian and Chilean auteurs Giedre Zickyte & Maite Alberdi.
Beneath the Op-Docs stream is an interview with the extraordinary pair describing how their collaboration began at CPH:LAB, with the experience akin to “a blind date,” leading them to make the “conceptual film” that they were both drawn to, and how that formative experience with the LAB team had them figuring “…out each other’s styles and interests” in order to achieve successful results quickly.
As we now can confirm, that effort and experience soon paid off, and spectacularly so. Already with the film’s world premiere at Visions du Réel, they had won the festival’s prestigious Best Short Film Award. Soon after, at Documenta Madrid, they secured the Audience Award. Following that win, the UK Sheffield Doc/Fest honoured them with Best Short Documentary, qualifying them for an American Academy Award in 2017, and most recently they succeeded at the Kraków Film Festival, where they secured the crucial Best European Film award, earning them a nomination for Best Short Film at the European Film Awards in Wrocław. Now, as they focus on additional successes with their new track record of excellence, CPH:DOX continues to wish Giedre and Maite the best of luck moving forward.
