Today two teams from CPH:LAB will present their projects at the NFL Discovery Pitch, an integral part of the film market during Göteborg Film Festival (GIFF) currently taking place in Sweden. Both projects were developed during CPH:LAB in November 2015, and this will be the first public presentation since the closed CPH:DOX pitching event in Gloria Cinema, Copenhagen.
Thomas Daneskov (DK) and Petri Lukkainen (FI) will present their project ‘Boys on a Train’ about a group of boys traveling through Europe. Already during the lab in November, the team of directors found their Danish producer Kirstine Barfod from Danish Documentary Production. Recently Helsinki-based producer Liisa Juntunen joined the team, too, making the foursome ready for further financing in both countries. The UK based cast is in place and shooting is set to begin this summer.
Ellen Fiske (SE) and Tomas Smulkis (LT) will pitch their project ‘Shield’ about the Norwegian organization Barneverket, which recently got public attention when removing a number of children from their Lithuanian immigrant parents. “With this documentary we want to look at this issue through both the eyes of the affected families and the people who represent Barnevernet. What happens when cultural differences interfere with how one should raise a child?” Next week the team will travel to Norway to meet with both parties, begin the research on location and start the casting process. A Lithuanian producer is already attached, and today’s pitch will hopefully lead to a closing deal with a Swedish producer, too, as well as the opening up of a third co-production country, the country where the action takes place: Norway.
We wish both teams the best of luck!05/02/16
