LEA GLOB & PETRA COSTA – OLMO AND THE SEAGULL
Locarno International Film Festival has announced its line-up, and it is now confirmed that Olmo & The Seagul will be in official competition in the section Cineasti del presente / Filmmakers of the present, thus world-premiering in Locarno on August 10.
In November 2014 the CPH:LAB film Olmo & The Seagull had its local premiere during CPH:DOX in Copenhagen, winning the NORDIC:DOX competition. Directed by CPH:LAB team Lea Glob and Petra Costa, the film is now ready for its official world premiere. We are very happy and proud to see this wonderful film receive its well-deserved international recognition.
Lea Glob on working with Petra Costa:
"Engaging in this process with Petra, Olivia and Serge helped enrich my approach to documentary-filmmaking immensely. Throughout the entire process of making this film, the actors, production team, and directors jointly entered this blurry space between the real and the imagined. As a collaboration between genres, cultures and personalities, this film became an intense interrogation of questions of form and storytelling."
Petra Costa on her collaboration with Lea Glob:
"Lea’s talents of observational filmmaking and my orientation towards improvisation allowed the film to move into territories that it would have never otherwise reached. In all stages, from shooting to editing, the work of the entire team was imbued with the spirit of a theatre troupe, where many of the ideas came to life through collaboration.
We have kept in touch ever since, and we are excited to be seeing each other in Locarno and talking about our progressing projects and about something we would like to do in the future too."
Both directors will be present at the world premiere in Locarno, and we can't wait to see what else might be in store for us from this inspired union of two unique talents. Congratulations, Petra and Lea!
